Hull people have been outraged to hear that the Labour Government has introduced Port Taxes (back-dated to 1st April 2005), that are threatening many jobs in Hull.
This attack on local jobs is scandalous,’ said Denis Healy. ‘Companies are facing bills that they reasonably thought they had paid, and during a time of recession may be faced with having to cut jobs as the only way to pay off the extra taxes.’
‘These taxes directly threaten jobs in Hull. It is a disgrace that Labour have tried to introduce them,’ added Denis.
Carl Minns and the Lib Dems on Hull City Council have tried to protect Hull jobs from this tax hike, refusing to collect the extra taxes until the Government forced the issue.
‘None of Hull’s 3 Labour MPs have stood up to the Government over these outrageous tax hikes. Hull needs a local MP who will fight its corner, and not just toe the Labour Party line,’ said Denis Healy.
